At Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, our unwavering commitment is to lessen our impact on the environment in which we operate. We firmly believe that providing thoughtful luxury while upholding our responsibility to the planet is fundamental to creating exceptional hospitality experiences. Here are some ways we are continuously striving to reduce the environmental footprint of our activities while adhering to stringent sustainability policies.
Sustainability Accreditation
We are proud to be certified with EarthCheck Bronze Benchmark 2025.
Solar Power
Our solar panel system powers around 25% of the resort, generating enough energy to run 170 homes on Denarau Island.
Water Bottling Facility
We bottle our own water on site using an 8-step filtration process to ensure top quality. Reusable glass bottles have replaced single-use plastic, and refill stations are available throughout the resort.
Room Initiatives
We use refillable bathroom dispensers, water-saving fixtures, and energy efficient lighting. Our guest compendium is digital, helping reduce paper waste.
Food & Beverage
We proudly source ingredients from local and sustainable suppliers, offer a diverse range of vegetarian options, creatively repurpose food scraps into house-made sodas, and maintain a strong recycling program in our staff dining facilities.
How You Can Get Involved?
-Refill your water bottle at our water stations around the resort
-Choose reusable cups or water bottles
-Take advantage of the recycling stations conveniently placed around the resort
Behind The Scenes
-We maintain ongoing partnership with local charities, such as Loloma Home and the Fiji Cancer Society.
-Ensure the safe disposal of electronics, batteries and lightbulbs
-Foster a green waste initiative, recycling green waste back into our gardens
-Install solar panels to reduce energy consumption and embrace cleaner energy sources
At Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, we are proud to support Loloma Hour—a nationwide initiative encouraging visitors to take part in meaningful sustainability experiences during their stay. Inspired by the Fijian word loloma, meaning love, compassion, and generosity, this program invites guests to connect more deeply with Fiji’s culture, people, and environment.
As part of Loloma Hour, we offer opportunities to engage in authentic, hands-on activities that promote environmental and cultural preservation. These activities include:
Kokoda Making: Learn how to prepare Fiji’s iconic dish made with fresh raw fish marinated in citrus, coconut milk, and local ingredients—a delicious and refreshing taste of island tradition.
Weaving: Discover the art of Fijian weaving as you craft ornaments like hats, baskets, and home décor using coconut leaves—skills passed down through generations.
Traditional Kava Ceremony: Take part in this centuries-old ritual of welcome and connection, where guests are invited to taste kava, a traditional drink made from the root of the yaqona plant.
Little Warrior Experience: Young guests can join in the fun by dressing in traditional Fijian warrior attire and helping our warriors light the resort torches at sunset—a magical moment to remember.
It’s a small time commitment that creates lasting memories—and a real impact.
